Great Personality!

I was so excited to be invited to create two pieces for Light Grey Art Lab's newest exhibition, Great Personality! The show explores “love, attraction, dating and personality. An awesome group of artists came together to create an amazing set of characters, locations, and personalities.” The work created by this plethora of talented artists culminates in a series of narrative fiction games, which will be playable at the gallery opening. So fun!

I was charged with illustrating two of the locations, which will be used as backgrounds for the game. Here are sneak peek details of my pieces - a cozy, eclectic tea bar and a night life street scene.

Wow, I can't believe I've been neglecting my posts since November. Apologies! Holidays and vacations and work and family all conspired against my productivity. But here I am!

My headdress & shoulder armor are made of layered foam, painted gold, with metal details. My shield is painted cardboard & paper with metal details. My spear is painted cardboard & wood, with gold ribbons & bells. 

John's helmet is layered & sealed cardboard, painted gold. His belt is faux-leather with a sculpted clay medallion. 

Yes, we went through more than a couple cans of spray paint...

It's My Birthday!

I'm happy it's Friday. Happy it's sunny. Happy about all the important, lovely, good things in my life and the wonderful, fun, sweet people who have made it all so happy.

Hello, October

October has always been my favorite month... Halloween, my birthday, my wedding (and subsequent anniversaries), candy corn, changing leaves, and all things pumpkin. But the last couple Octobers have brought with them some difficult experiences. My fondness for the month is a little bit shaken, and I'm hesitant to celebrate wholeheartedly without hesitation or superstition.

But I'm feeling a little braver this morning and hoping for a kindly and cheerful October that brings only happy surprises. I made some wishes on a dandelion's fluff last month. I wonder if they'll come true?
