Saturday we'll be lucky enough to have the keys in our pockets. What better celebration than to get a little bottle of wine, some take-out pizza, and sit on the floor in the middle of the house just wondering what in the world we've gotten ourselves into :)
In other news, the very last of the wedding invitations will be in the post on Monday. I keep running out of ribbon, which causes delays.
Hooray for Friday!
P.S.
Any opinions on the new blog banner?

Tonight's the Night!
By this evening, Johnny D and I will own a house of our very own!
But I'm sure it won't feel real until we actually get the keys and are standing in the bare living room this weekend. It's been a whirlwind! I guess this means we're officially adults.
Promise I'll post some photos in the near future once we're getting settled :)

Too Many Raindrops, Not Enough Time
Sorry, friends - not enough time to post new work. Next week will (hopefully, hopefully, hopefully) be less busy!
Why are the sleepy, rainy days always the ones that demand the most of my energy? All I want to do is snuggle up in bed and finish reading The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy.
On a more cheerful note: 10 days till we move into our first home!

Please Hand Deliver
Johnny D and I are the hands-on kind of folk (both being illustrators, that's just how it is), and so when it came to our wedding it was simply a given that we would be creating most everything ourselves. From the decorations to the invitations, and anything we couldn't do ourselves was (thankfully!) taken on by other artspeople and friends and family. We're slowly dropping envelopes into the mail, but as we're doing everything by hand, from addressing the labels to tying the ribbon to sealing the flaps with special adhesive, it's taking some time!
Last night, I wrote out scores of labels, only to realize I had just enough ribbon for 3 invitations.
Off to the craft store I go!
But the act of treating each invitation like it's the only one of its kind and being so personally involved makes it that much more meaningful to us. Of course the carefully chosen stamps will hardly be noticed, and one-of-a-kind envelopes will be torn and thrown away, and little design choices we labored over probably won't matter at all, but that's how we approach most things that are important to us. The minor, silly details are sometimes the most fun and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Honeymoonin' in Style
Well, not for another three months.
But if I had my way, right this minute I'd be spending a hot Summer on a road trip in the Southwest, bare feet out the window, retro sunglasses, hourly stops for roadside hot dogs and ice cream. My own honeymoon will be pretty different (lounging about in haunted hotels and poking around historical sites in Savannah & New Orleans and I'm terribly excited), but I still fantasize about adventures in my very own silver bullet camper with off-road diversions to see the world's biggest spool of thread.

Just a Peep
Here are some details from 4 new pieces I finished for the Here & Now Show at Brigade on Coventry in Cleveland Heights opening next Saturday the 18th! The full pieces measure something like 19"x23," framed.
They were very experimental - using ink via a bamboo quill, pastels & paint thinner, acrylic, charcoal... It was a fun process.
Join us next Saturday! The other participating talents are Stenvik Mostrom, Scott Radke, Julia Kuo and Sidney Lo.
In other news, Johnny D and I are off to NC tonight, so no more posts till next week - have happy weekends, everyone :)

Bump in the Road
Alas, I'm home sick today. Hopefully, by tomorrow I'll be back to my usual self - we're hitting the road Thursday night for a weekend trip to North Carolina to stay at the place we'll be getting hitched, to talk with our officiant and iron out the ceremony.
Here's a silly photo of me from the last time we were in NC with a very tiny wildflower: Scoping out the ceremony landscape :)

Color Studies
These are a result of my new resolution to take my own photographs (thanks, John, for your assistance!) to use as reference.
Now I just have to figure out how I want to finish the final paintings. There might be some experimentation in my very near future... Let's hope for success.
