My heart hurts for Orlando, my hometown.
Yesterday’s horror took place 10 miles from where I grew up, on a stretch of road where I spent many nights in my teens and 20s, feeling carefree and happy and connected with my community. One person armed with hatred, prejudice, and an evil machine invaded a place of love and acceptance and destroyed dozens of lives, hundreds of families. I am bewildered and sad and very angry but I am also filled with hope that laws will change, lives will be saved, people will learn to hate less and love more. My heart is lifted in seeing the community come together in solidarity to donate blood, hold vigils, and struggle to change gun laws and lessen anti-LGBTQ bigotry to help prevent yet another senseless, preventable, horrific tragedy like this one.
You have my heart, Orlando.

I had a lot of fun illustrating this sweet mer-gal. Who knew drawing seaweed could be so satisfying?

Painting Practice

I recently started taking lessons in watercolors and gouache, and this moth is the first practice-painting that wasn't a complete failure. It's still rough and filled with mistakes, but I feel like I'm finally starting to get the hang of it.

My Online Portfolio

Oops! I realized that the link to my website I have listed here on my blog is an old one. I changed my name after I got married, and have been slowly transitioning my domains from Mojher to DeLucca. For some reason, I can't update the link, so I'm using this post to share the correct website for my online portfolio.

I'm in the process of moving this blog over to my Squarespace site, but it will take some time. Eventually, it will be nice to have everything in one location. Meanwhile, I'll continue to post new projects here until "the move" is complete.

You can also follow me on Tumblr!

This laser-cut design for American Greetings has at least 4 separate layers of paper! And twinkling lights! It was a complicated project that took quite a bit of planning, but I’m pleased with the bright, cheerful result. I hope to see it in stores someday.

Hey, that’s my name!

Here is a series of Birthday cards I created exclusively for Target, with American Greetings. They feature laser-cut layered paper and lots of sparkly details. They are in stores now, and should be available nationwide next week!

On Mother's Day

For everyone who is a mother, has a mother, is missing their mother, is doing the work of a mother, is no longer a mother, was almost a mother, wishes they were a mother: ✨Love✨ to all of you who work so hard, do so much good, bring so much love into the world. I hope this Mother’s Day weekend brings moments of joy, reflection, and connection to each of you.
And love to my own mother, to whom I owe everything. 💛

The Evolution of a Tiny Cut Paper Dress

Research and sketches, designing the pattern of flowers and leaves, cutting by hand, and finally assembling to a white silhouette and black background. Ta-da!
