Time for a Break

I'll be away from my computer for a whole week, attending lectures at the Illustration Academy in Sarasota. It'll be strange to visit my ole stomping grounds after all these years... Well, it hasn't been that long, but Ringling's campus has changed quite a bit since my graduation.

I'll be back at the end of June!

Vinyl Values

UPDATE:
Alas, was too busy/had technical issues and wasn't able to complete my vinyl. But some great work from other artists is definitely worth checking out.

I'm participating in what promises to be a quirky and amusing show: "STRAIGHT FROM THE CRATE," June 26 - July 26. Swing by the opening reception June 26, 7-10pm at Shoparooni and see for yourself! Here's the scoop:

Using old vinyl records originally destined for the trash as their canvas, the participating artists have created a diverse collection of traditional and contemporary art. This show runs from June 26 through July 26 at the very hip Shoparooni Gallery Annex in Cleveland's Waterloo Arts District and features artists from Cleveland, LA, NY, Arizona and Australia.

In an effort to take some of the mystery out of art buying, this show, unlike others, will be "cash-and-carry," meaning if you see something you like, you can take your new-favorite-artwork home with you that night, straight off the wall! "The overall goal of the show," says curator Keith Corcoran, "is to put high-quality one-of-a-kind artwork in the hands of the average citizen at a price that won't break the bank." Artists include... Alison Kurzeja, Aaron Wildasin, Anthony Davila, Bill Kerner, Cheryl Andrey, Claire Mojher, Chris Hsu, Carlos Villagra, Daniel Edlen, Dave Savage, Derek Welch, Derek Yoder, Eliza Devogel, Erik Flesher, Emily Gross, Giao Buu, Jaden Devogel, James Groman, Jeffrey Conrad, John DeLucca, Julia Kuo, Keith Allen, Keith Corcoran, Kevin Carr, Kelle Schwab, Kelley Corcoran, Masa Homma, Nomar Perez, Numskull, Renee Froerer, Robbie Busch, Shaun Edwards, Steve Ehret, and more!

The Busiest Bee

But still maintaining a cheerful disposition!

I'll be tremendously relieved when the planning and designing and moving and cleaning and painting and organizing and inviting and mailing and creating and driving and preparing are all behind me and I can just float along and enjoy our wedding and our little honeymoon and then come back to our new house and unnnwind...

Robot Speak Truth Words

He should know - he sits on my desk watching me all day.

New-house things, wedding things, commission things, gallery things, day job things...
I'll be back to regular posting next week, I hope!

P.S.
I love how people say "robit" in old sci-fi radio shows :)

A Family Affair

I'm so excited to announce the launch of this holding page for the Protomen, illustrated by my dexterous John DeLucca! It was a lengthy undertaking, and I saw the whole process from beginning to end. Lots of late nights with that digital paintbrush...

Once he finished the images, the illustrations were handed off to someone else to be animated and I think it turned out really well - take a look! And be sure to watch it for a few moments - things change and move. There's just so much detail in there - a small computer screen doesn't do it justice.

And kudos to my brother, Dylan, for some of the lettering design. It's fun to see his strange invented alphabet put to use. I'm tickled that my fiancé and my brother were able to collaborate in such an unexpected way.
